According to a 2006 study, collective guilt is an entirely self-focused emotion. It's not about helping disadvantaged out-groups, it's about alleviating a personal burden of shame.

"Use the Wrench": How to mass-produce racism — What 1997’s “Good Will Hunting” teaches us about racists in 2021.

TL;DR: Frivolous accusations of racism, especially against young whites who were raised to treat everyone equally, ends up creating more racists. It's just like the scene from Good Will Hunting, "I always chose the wrench...because fuck him." Read it.

Darpa outlines a brand new category of extremism: "Patriot Extremism," here, on page 4:

"This ideology holds that the US government has become corrupt, has overstepped its constitutional boundaries or is no longer capable of protecting the people against foreign threats."

First, they came for the Nazis.
But I did not speak ― for I was not a Nazi.

No, Trump did not "incite" the capitol riots, says Christopher Miller, a former pentagon official.

People seem to like my writing more when they can just assume I'm talking about their enemies. They don't like it when they can tell I'm talking about them.

Covid skeptics and anti-maskers are more objective, data literate, and "their approach to the pandemic is grounded in more scientific rigor, not less," says science:

"Indeed, anti-maskers often reveal themselves to be more sophisticated in their understanding of how scientific knowledge is socially constructed than their ideological adversaries, who espouse naïve realism about the 'objective' truth of public health data."

"In other words, anti-maskers value unmediated access to information and privilege personal research and direct reading over 'expert' interpretations."

"Arguing anti-maskers need more scientific literacy is to characterize their approach as uninformed & inexplicably extreme. This study shows the opposite"

Another damaging sociocultural negative to emerge from the Covid pandemic: the conditioning of ordinary people to believe that data-driven skeptics are dangerous and reactionary.

Oi, I've added a link above to my Medium articles. Have a read if you're into reading and won't be offended by political editorials.

The fake news and their mental health expert friends synergize quite nicely. The news makes us insane, the mental health experts go on the news and say, "Yup, people are going insane nowadays, it's weird," and then the news will somehow manage to blame white males for it. It's like music. So coordinated and harmonious.

No, the origin of the police was not southern slave patrols. That's fucking riddiculus.

Normally, I try to avoid paying too much attention to my stats on Medium, lest I get social-media'd and go insane (again), but I take a certain cheeky-capitalist pride in pointedly checking the stats for my story bashing the Communist Manifesto, which is doing better than I expected.
Also, it attracts triggered West Coast Communist types in the comments, so that means I've hit a nerve.

Upon further reflection, this is actually something exactly resembling the amazing and existentially horrifying game Soma, which you should absolutely watch a playthrough of, or at least read its spoiler-riffic Wikipedia page.

I just read an article, "Thirty, Flirty, and Not Thriving" - The increasingly cold, conniving, and lonely millenial generation of women have found themselves at age thirty to be more like "the bad Jenna" from that middle bit of the film Thirteen Going On Thirty. Too bad they can't go back to thirteen to stop being so vapid and awful. That's what happens when millions of young people are conditioned to think that having children would be the worst possible outcome. Starting a family used to be the ultimate aspiration.
